CGC and Trick Dog Testing

CGC – Canine Good Citizen

Jamileh-Sofia diGuida will be CGC/Trick Dog testing on Saturday morning from 9 to 10 am at the top of the hill, weather permitting.

Additionally, Jamileh will test CGC/Tricks on Friday afternoon from 4:30 to 5:30 pm in the Activity Center and Monday from 9 to 10 am at the top of the hill, or anytime you catch her when she is free and without her dogs.

You may test for CGC and Novice Trick Dog at the same time. If you pass the CGC test, you only need five tricks for the Novice Trick Dog title.

The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club. You should bring your own dog comb or brush (if you forget, one can be provided).

The test costs $15.00 with all proceeds going to Long Island Golden Retriever Rescue, so either cash (exact preferred) or a check/money order written out to them would be great. There is no need to sign up in advance, but you may.

In addition, to CGC, there are five AKC Trick Titles you and your dog can earn and the first four levels will be tested by the CGC evaluators at Goldstock. Here they are.

AKC Novice Trick Dog (TKN) – Your dog performs 10 skills from the Novice list. If a dog has a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certificate or title on record at the AKC, it can do 5 Novice tricks (CGC + 5) to earn the Novice title.

AKC Intermediate Trick Dog (TKI) – Your dog must have the Novice title, plus perform 10 Intermediate tricks.

AKC Advanced Trick Dog (TKA) – Your dog must have the Intermediate title, plus perform 10 tricks from the Advanced list.

AKC Trick Dog Performer (TKP) – In this title, handlers perform 10 tricks with at least 3 tricks using props. Your Performer tricks can tell a story, but it is not necessary. No agility or obedience equipment can be used for this level. So if you want to test for Performer at Goldstock, you need to bring your own props.

AKC Trick Dog Elite Performer (TKE) – In the highest level of Trick Dog, the Elite Performers perform a routine that has a story/script. At least 5 props are used. The Elite test is taken by video and submitted to the AKC for evaluation and titling. An AKC CGC evaluator can NOT test for Elite and so there will not be an Elite test at Goldstock.

The cost of trick testing will be $1 per trick with all proceeds going to Long Island Golden Retriever Rescue (cash, check or money order written out to them).
